Boredom through the Lens of the Elephant

The Elephant’s Lens

Understanding the world’s misconceptions, one observation at a time.

There are times you’re bored. Your spouse is bored. Certainly your kids are bored. Our instinct is to fill that empty space with something.

But that’s not how boredom works.

Boredom isn’t a lack of things to do. It’s a craving—often for a very specific kind of stimulation, and one we don’t always know how to satisfy.

The next time boredom strikes, treat it like any other craving: hunger, thirst, or the urge for nicotine. Simply filling it with something rarely does the trick. The goal isn’t to do more—it’s to find what your mind is actually asking for.
